During the winter you can ski at either Falls Creek or Mount Hotham as they are only an hour away and in summer bushwalking, horse riding and fishing are popular pastimes. Mt Buffalo National Park is only a 40 minute drive where in winter you can do cross country skiing or tobogganing and in summer bush walking or swimming in the river The Lady Baths. Several wineries can be found within a short distance from Bright for example Feather Top Winery, Michelini, Ringer Reef, Gapsted or Brown Brothers.

The area hosts many events and festivals: Autumn & Spring Festival, 3 Peaks Challenge, La Fiera, Opera & movies in the Alps, Hot Rod Weekend, Chestnut Festival and much more. We are well renown for our restaurants, cafes and local produce for example olives, chestnut, berries, organics farms, Beechworth honey, The Butter Factory Myrtleford, Nightingale Apples and much more. The Alpine & Ovens region is rich in culture and history for example Wandiligong is a historic gold mining town where you can walk to the Chinese Swing bridge and learn about days gone by.
Ashwood Cottages are situated on more than a hectare of bushland and back onto the Ovens River, Canyon walk and is a short distance to the Rail Trail.
